It is strange that The Association's "Goodbye Columbus" is not played on oldies radio like "Windy,' or "Never My Love." This band was never meant to compete with acid rock, but the title track for this shows how punchy and, yes, rocky this band could be when /5(15).

A vinyl LP record of the film's score was released in by Warner Bros. Records and a compact disc was released in by Collector's Choice Music. Three songs in the soundtrack were written and performed by members of The Association: "Goodbye, Columbus" (Jim Yester), "It's Gotta Be Real" (Larry Ramos), and "So Kind To Me" (Terry Kirkman).

The Association is the group's eponymous fifth studio album (# 32). It is an eclectic LP with songs in many different styles including rock, pop, blue-eyed soul, psychedelic, country and novelty, while still staying in the realm of sunshine rock and sunshine pop. Although generally well received by the critics, it did not spawn any hit singles.

The soundtrack to the motion picture Goodbye, Columbus is a peripheral title in the Association's catalog, with only the title track (a good song but minor hit for the band) being of particular interest. Only three other cuts involve the Association, one of which is an instrumental version of "Goodbye, Columbus" with wordless vocals."It's Gotta Be Real" is pleasant but unspectacular, and "So.
